We sell a number of Fairtrade certified products including bouquets and single stem labelled flowers.  The additional Fairtrade premium price that we pay goes back to fund economic, social and environmental development projects for the workers at the farms.

Flowers carrying the FAIRTRADE Mark have met the internationally agreed Fairtrade standards covering social, environmental and economic development.  Plantations and estates must meet internationally recognised employment standards based on core International Labour Organization (ILO) conventions. These include paying workers decent wages, guaranteeing the right to join a trade union, freedom from discrimination, health and safety standards, and the provision of adequate housing and other social provisions where relevant plus an additional premium to invest in health, education, infrastructure, and other community development projects.

Plantations and estates must also commit to ongoing improvements which are regularly monitored by the independent Fairtrade certification body.  A Joint Body, comprising democratically elected representatives of workers, is established on each of the farms to democratically decide how the Fairtrade premium is used. All groups of workers, including temporary and seasonal workers are able to participate in the election process and composition of the Joint Body, while management is invited to participate so that workers can benefit from their expertise. Members receive training in finance and administration to build their capacity to deal with these responsibilities, leading to empowerment though gaining skills in leadership and communication, and project planning and management.

Fairtrade environmental development criteria ensure environmental protection is made an integral part of farm management, including minimising the use of chemical fertilisers and insecticides and their gradual replacement them with natural alternatives, protection of water, soil structure and other natural resources, and the responsible disposal of waste.

When you buy our Fairtrade flowers you can be certain that the farm workers benefit from improved conditions plus a social premium that enables them to develop the lives of their families and communities by investing in areas such as schooling and healthcare.
